Why I Chose the Dog Life (and Never Looked Back)
Some people choose a career. Mine kind of chased me down… tail wagging, eyes shining, and usually with a muddy pawprint to offer.
For as long as I can remember, dogs have been my heart. I’ve spent over 20 years learning from them, living alongside them, and understanding their unique, lovable chaos. From the quiet, nervous rescues to the sock-stealing goofballs, I’ve seen the full spectrum of canine behavior—and I fell in love with all of it.
But my journey didn’t start in a kennel. It began in boardrooms, spreadsheets, and office spaces. With a professional background in administration, accounting, and project management, I thrived in structure and organization. Still, no matter how fulfilling the job, something kept pulling me back to the dogs. They’ve always been more than a hobby—they were my joy, my curiosity, my why.
Eventually, I made it official. I earned my certification from Good Dog Academy, combining my decades of hands-on experience with formal education in modern, science-based, positive reinforcement techniques. And let me tell you—graduating was just the beginning.
What drives me now is more than training a dog to sit or stay. It’s about helping people understand their dogs on a deeper level. I know how frustrating it can be to feel like your dog “just isn’t listening,” or worse, like they’re out of control. I’ve lived that too. But I also know it doesn’t have to stay that way.
My goal is to bridge the communication gap between dogs and humans. Dogs don’t speak our language—but they do communicate clearly when we know how to listen. I specialize in positive reinforcement and humane training methods, which means we focus on trust, rewards, and real progress—not punishment. Because dogs aren’t being “bad.” They’re being dogs. And we get to teach them how to be successful in our world.
What I love most about this work is watching the transformation—not just in the dogs, but in the people. When a dog begins to respond, when the frustration melts into understanding, when trust grows between a human and their pup… that’s the magic. That’s why I do what I do.
